Terms of use

These terms apply to everyone who uses Vehicle Part Finder ("we", "us"), whether you are looking for parts (a "buyer") or listing parts (a "seller"). Sellers can be businesses (garages, breakers' yards, sole traders) or private individuals. By using the site you agree to them. Vehicle Part Finder is operated by Vehicle Part Finder (company details to be confirmed).

1. What Vehicle Part Finder is, and what it isn't

Vehicle Part Finder is an online listings and search service. We help buyers find used car parts that sellers have in stock and put the two in touch.

We are not a party to any sale. We do not own, inspect, sell, store or deliver any part, and we do not take payments between buyers and sellers. Any contract for the sale of a part is made directly between the buyer and the seller. Price, payment, collection, delivery, returns and refunds are agreed between you and the other party.

We do not guarantee that any part is available, accurately described, fit for purpose, or compatible with your vehicle, even where a listing says it fits.

2. For buyers

  • You don't need an account to search or contact sellers.
  • Before paying, check the part number against your original part, ask for extra photos if unsure, and confirm the returns policy with the seller.
  • When you buy from a business seller (shown with the business name, and "Registered company" if they've given us a company number that Companies House lists as active) you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 against that seller, not against Vehicle Part Finder. Distance-selling rights (such as the 14-day cancellation period) may apply when you buy without visiting the seller.
  • When you buy from a private seller (shown as "Private seller") you have fewer legal rights: the part must be as described and the seller must have the right to sell it, but it is otherwise sold "as seen". Inspect it before you pay if you can.
  • Safety-critical parts (brakes, steering, suspension, airbags, seat belts) should be fitted by a competent person.
  • Use the messaging form honestly. Don't send spam, abuse or unsolicited marketing.

3. For sellers

  • You must give accurate details and complete our verification before you can publish: every seller adds a debit or credit card in their own name (prepaid cards are not accepted, and each card can only be used on one account). Businesses may add a Companies House number; if they do, it must be their own company. We can refuse or withdraw verification at any time.
  • If you regularly buy and sell parts to make a profit, you are trading and must register as a business, not a private seller. Businesses must not pose as private sellers.
  • Your card is saved securely by Stripe. We will not charge it unless you choose a paid feature and agree to its price first.
  • You are responsible for your listings, including text, photos and prices, even where our AI tool helped write them. Check every AI suggestion before publishing.
  • Only list parts you have in stock and are entitled to sell. Mark parts as sold promptly. Listings expire after 90 days unless renewed.
  • You must comply with the law that applies to you, including consumer law, the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 where relevant, environmental permits for vehicle dismantling, and data protection law for the buyer details you receive.
  • Use buyers' contact details only to deal with their enquiry. Don't add them to marketing lists without their consent.

4. Items that are not allowed

  • Stolen parts, or parts you cannot show you own.
  • Parts that are unsafe, recalled, or illegal to sell or fit for road use.
  • Undeployed airbags and seat-belt pretensioners, unless you are permitted to sell them and describe them fully.
  • Anything other than vehicle parts and accessories, including whole vehicles.
  • Misleading, offensive or copied content, including photos you don't have rights to.

5. Moderation and reporting

Anyone can report a listing. We may remove listings, suspend accounts or refuse service where we reasonably believe these terms or the law have been broken. We are not obliged to monitor listings but will act on reports.

6. Third-party links (including eBay)

Some search results come from eBay and link to eBay. Purchases on eBay are governed by eBay's own terms. We may earn a commission from eBay if you buy through those links, at no extra cost to you.

7. Content licence

Sellers keep ownership of their listings and photos, and give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, resize and promote them on Vehicle Part Finder and in search engines while the listing is live and for a reasonable time afterwards.

8. Our liability

We provide Vehicle Part Finder with reasonable care and skill, but "as is", and we don't promise it will always be available or error-free. Because we are not a party to any sale, we are not liable for the condition, legality, safety or delivery of any part, or for what buyers and sellers do. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud. Otherwise, our total liability to any seller is limited to £100.

9. Ending your account

Sellers can ask us to close their account at any time by emailing support@vehiclepartfinder.co.uk. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

10. Changes and law

We may update these terms and will show the date of the latest change on this page. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
